Nodaway Power Plant provides peaking power

Nodaway Power Plant

The Nodaway Power Plant comprises two 91-megawatt gas-based, simple-cycle combustion turbines used as peaking units to maintain the reliability of AECI's growing system. A simple-cycle combustion turbine is basically a gas turbine engine that spins a generator. This type of combustion turbine can be started and shut down more quickly than coal-based units, thus affording more flexibility and making this an excellent system for responding to peak demands.

Emissions from natural-gas-based units, like the Nodaway plant, are extremely low, and the ambient air impacts are only a minute fraction of federal standards set to protect public health.

Located in northwest Missouri, the Nodaway Power Plant went on line in June 1999. Units 1 and 2 are Siemens simple-cycle, gas-based units with a net capacity of 91 MW each for a total capacity of 182 MW.
