Natural gas

The foresight of Associated Electric's leadership has enabled it to develop, own and maintain generating resource diversity. Associated built its first gas plant in 1999, and today its fleet includes three combined-cycle gas plants that total 2,143 megawatts of efficient, low-emissions capacity, as well as three gas peaking plants totaling 610 MW of capacity.

Generating fleet diversity helps Associated meet its mission to provide member systems an economical, reliable wholesale power supply. In recent years, Associated has taken advantage of historically low natural gas prices to run its combined-cycle units ahead of its coal units, saving on the cost to serve members.
