Internships
Meet Charlee, the mojo behind our mission
Charlee completed two environmental services internships with Associated, one based at headquarters and one at the power plants, before returning to complete her senior year at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She was earning her bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering with a minor in sustainability. She plans to work in her field, then pursue graduate studies and a career in environmental policy.
Gain POWERFUL experience!
Do you want to be a member of the team? Are you seeking a real internship experience focused on real-world problems? Associated provides highly competitive internships that offer a real-world perspective into your curriculum. As an intern with us, you will be considered a member of your team and will be given the support necessary to accomplish challenging and rewarding work.
We recruit only the best students for our internships, which offer a wide range of operational, technical and professional experiences. Our interns have had the opportunity to run their own transmission engineering studies, complete safety audits, perform environmental studies, write computer programs, edit and design their own journalism pieces and much more! Interns will gain hands-on experience in their curriculum, directly collaborate with staff and face a unique set of real projects and challenges.
Achieve your career goals by working for a company committed to positively impacting people’s lives every day.
Requirements:
Associated offers professional internships and co-ops for college students. Applicants must meet these requirements to be eligible for a position:
- Over 18 years of age.
- Must be pursuing a degree at an accredited college or university.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States. Associated cannot provide employment to applicants who will require sponsorship now or in the future (i.e. H1B visa, OPT status).
Our internship opportunities are offered at most of Associated's locations. The cooperative provides competitive pay for all internships, as well as cooperative credit when available. Specific internships are eligible for housing assistance.
"Our interns produce quality work that contributes to the business in impactful ways, and I continue to be impressed with the talent these students bring to the table. With the help of employees in the organization that mentor the students, this program continues to foster our strategic staffing initiative to ‘grow our own’ talent at Associated."
– Stacy Bussard, manager of human resources services, who started at Associated as a student clerk while pursuing her education.
The experience I’ve gained working at Associated is unmatched, bar none. I’ve interned at multiple other companies, and this has, by far, been the best experience I’ve had as an intern. Not only did I get an in-depth, hands-on experience related to my degree, but I was taught core values that I can take with me throughout my personal and professional life.
