Meet Brent, the mojo behind our mission
In the challenging job of managing people, Brent excels in communication, information-sharing, mentoring and walking the talk. That’s why co-workers nominated him, and he was selected by the executive team, for Associated Electric Cooperative’s 2019 Excel award for Supervisor of the Year.
Brent joined Associated in 2004 as an auxiliary operator first period and progressed. By 2014 he was a supervisor, where his knowledge of the plant serves him well. On the night shift, he’s in charge of operations, plus the lab technician, electricians and instrumentation staff. “I work with a really good group of people. … They know what needs to be done and are proactive on things before they become an issue.”
In addition to learning from previous supervisors and mentors, Brent has taken advantage of supervisor training provided by Associated. “One thing makes Associated special to me: I was hired off the street with just a high school education, and I’ve been fortunate to make very good wages, have great benefits, retirement, and also have an opportunity to pursue a college education,” Brent said. “It’s not something you see a lot nowadays.”
